## [Amazon: Nova 2 Lite](https://ailoot.ai/models/en/amazon-nova-2-lite-v1/)

Amazon Nova 2 Lite combines text, image, document and video understanding with optional extended thinking and tool use. Its million-token context supports document workflows, coding and agents that need to reason across several steps.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Amazon Nova 2 Lite is Amazon’s second-generation multimodal understanding model for everyday enterprise work and more demanding agent tasks. It accepts text, images and video, including document content, and produces text. Practical work includes support responses grounded in supplied material, extracting information from reports, analysing charts or screenshots, reviewing code and summarising visual events. It is an understanding model: video input is analysed rather than regenerated, and its documented output is text rather than native images, video or speech.

The producer model profile lists a 1 million-token context window and a standard maximum output of 64K tokens. Its documented knowledge cutoff is October 2025. This larger working context distinguishes Nova 2 Lite from the 300K window of first-generation Nova Lite. Use the space for the actual source documents, relevant conversation, code and instructions, then request a focused artifact such as an evidence table, a change proposal or a summary organised by source. A long context does not turn learned knowledge into a live database; information that changes should come from supplied evidence, retrieval or an enabled grounding tool.

Extended thinking is optional and disabled by default. With it enabled, the producer offers low, medium and high effort: low for moderately complex analysis, medium for substantial multi-step work, and high for the deepest reasoning. Straightforward extraction and short factual replies can use thinking off; difficult debugging, mathematical reasoning and synthesis across documents can benefit from additional effort. Reasoning content is returned as \[REDACTED\], so it is not a readable step-by-step trace. The high-effort contract requires omitting temperature, topP, topK and maxTokens; Amazon documents that some high-effort outputs can exceed 65K tokens and reach 128K, rather than defining 128K as an ordinary output allowance.

Nova 2 Lite supports function calling, response streaming and prompt caching in Amazon’s documented serving profile. Explicit caching requires at least 1K tokens per checkpoint and permits up to four checkpoints with five-minute retention. The producer limits prompt caching to 20K tokens, primarily for text prompts; that cache allowance is distinct from the full context window. Supply clear tool names, descriptions and argument schemas; the model chooses a tool and requests arguments, while the application executes custom tools and returns their results. Amazon also documents optional built-in Web Grounding for current information with citations and a Python Code Interpreter for calculations. These are configured tools, not activities implied by every answer. Amazon also documents supervised and reinforcement fine-tuning to adapt Nova 2 Lite to a specialised task; these are separate model-customisation workflows. For a numerical report, a useful brief separates the source figures, the calculation to perform and the explanation to return; tool errors should remain visible in the returned result rather than being treated as successful observations.

The multimodal guide lists PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images; for animated GIF or WebP only the first frame is used. Video formats include MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, FLV, MPEG, MPG, WMV and 3GP. Documents include PDF, DOC/DOCX, TXT, CSV, XLS/XLSX, HTML and Markdown. Text-based formats are read primarily as text, while PDF and DOCX can combine text and page visuals. The producer document workflow permits up to five documents and limits each text document to 4.5 MB. The embedded image profile permits five images and a 25 MB payload; S3 image input permits up to 1,000 images and 2 GB total. Video input permits one file: 25 MB embedded or 1 GB through S3. PDF and DOCX files share a combined allowance of 25 MB for direct upload or 2 GB through S3. PDFs containing CMYK or SVG images are unsupported. These file-handling details belong to the documented producer workflow; attach the actual relevant content and preserve its page or section labels for useful references.

Video understanding uses visual frames rather than the audio track. For videos of 16 minutes or less, the guide describes one sampled frame per second; its prose describes reducing the sampling rate for longer clips to retain 960 frames. Rapid actions between frames can therefore be missed. Prefer a relevant clip and an explicit question about scenes or events; provide a separate transcript when spoken information matters. Small or multilingual text and precise spatial relationships can also be difficult, so preserve readable labels and enough surrounding visual context. The producer also states that this model does not identify or name people in images, documents or videos.

Amazon documents support for over 200 languages, with optimisation for English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish and Hebrew. State the required output language and terminology, especially when sources use several languages. For a document workflow, specify the questions, evidence identifiers and final structure, then ask the model to distinguish stated facts from missing information. Its useful result is a source-grounded response or tool-informed artifact, not an assumption that every detail in a large input has been captured.

Practical task

### Draft a grounded support reply

Technical example in English

```
Draft a grounded support reply
Write a customer reply using only this help article: A replacement may be requested within 14 days of delivery for a damaged item; include the order number and a photo in the support ticket. Customer: My parcel arrived broken yesterday. Can you send another? Explain the next step without claiming a replacement has already been approved.
```

#### Expected result

```
A customer-ready reply of 60–90 words covering eligibility, required ticket information and the next action.
```

#### Check the result

```
Check that the reply requests the order number and photo without asserting that a ticket or replacement was created.
```
