About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

GPT-5.6 Terra is the balanced member of OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 family. It is designed for work that combines capable reasoning with repeated practical use: everyday coding, document analysis, explanations and agent steps. Text and image inputs lead to text output. A good brief gives Terra the material to inspect, the decision or change required and the form of the deliverable.

#### Coding with a defined behavior change

Supply the relevant code, the observed behavior and the behavior expected after the correction. An error report can include the failing input, the exact message and the part of the application involved. Ask for the affected logic and a focused patch, then inspect the change and the evidence used to validate it. For a design question, name the alternatives and the constraints that determine the choice.

A screenshot can add visible evidence to a software task. Identify the interface state and what should change, while preserving the labels or data that need to stay correct. The image helps explain the problem; the requested artifact can still be a text analysis, implementation proposal or code change carried out by an attached tool.

#### Documents and structured answers

For a comparison, label the supplied sources and define the criteria to apply. For extraction, name the fields, units and treatment of missing values. Terra supports structured outputs, allowing an application to request a defined result shape. Validate both that shape and the values it contains, especially when a returned number or label will drive a later action.

The model also supports function calling. Define the tools the task can use and keep their returned observations in the working context. A proposed call and the tool’s actual result have different roles: the first describes an intended action, while the second supplies evidence for the next step. Preserve that distinction in the final artifact.

#### Reasoning, context and available tools

OpenAI documents reasoning effort choices of none, low, medium, high, xhigh and max, with medium as the default. Choose the depth needed to resolve the question and state what would demonstrate a useful answer. A concise final response can still follow substantial analysis of a difficult problem.

The manufacturer lists a 1,050,000-token context window and up to 128,000 output tokens. Arrange larger source sets into named sections, retain the information that affects the result and reserve space for the answer. Keep file or passage identifiers so conclusions remain connected to the original material.

Streaming is documented, along with web search, file search, image generation, code interpretation, shell and patch tools, computer use and MCP in OpenAI’s tool-enabled environment. An application exposes the operations it needs and returns the resulting evidence. Terra’s direct answer is text; tool-produced files or changes should be inspected as their own artifacts.

A useful completed task leaves a clear result: the proposed or applied change, the comparison or extracted record, and the source or validation evidence needed to assess it.

Practical task

### Correct a numeric sort

Technical example in English

```
Correct a numeric sort
A JavaScript page sorts quantities with values.sort(), giving [1, 12, 3] for input [3, 12, 1]. Propose a focused change that returns ascending numeric order while leaving the original input array unchanged. Explain the cause and include checks for positive numbers, duplicates and negative values.
```

#### Expected result

```
A short JavaScript function or patch, an explanation and three representative checks.
```

#### Check the result

```
Verify the numeric comparator and a copied array are both present, so sorting does not mutate the caller input.
```

Rates in USD per 1K tokens. If no rate is set, the base rate for this method is inherited; «—» means no base rate is set.

Ailoot reserves an estimated amount before a request. After the result, it settles the final charge from measured usage. Streaming settlement uses the final usage record. [How reservation and settlement work →](https://ailoot.ai/docs/en/billing/reserve/)

#### Reference tariff details

Model-level reference schedules do not change method selection, quotes or charges. Active charges use the selected Ailoot method rates.
