About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

#### A long task with code and tools

MiniMax M3.1-Flash-Preview is a preview multimodal M-series model for coding, reasoning and structured execution of complex tasks. The manufacturer highlights tool use and long sessions in which connections between original material and sequential actions need to be retained.

The declared context window is up to **1,000,000 tokens**. It is intended for long documents, codebases and multi-step history. Large context should be allocated between instructions, material and response, accounting for the request limit available in the card.

#### Choosing reasoning depth

Reasoning in this version is always enabled: before answering, the model breaks a complex task into steps. Depth is controlled by `effort`, with the levels `low`, `medium`, `high`, `xhigh` and `max`. `max` is selected by default; a higher level generally means more detailed reasoning, more output tokens and a longer wait.

Disabling reasoning is not provided. To reduce its volume, the manufacturer suggests lowering the depth level. Reasoning and the final response are returned separately, allowing the completed answer to be displayed as separate text.

#### Understanding material and the result

Model capabilities include understanding text, images and video. This Ailoot card provides text and images, and the result is a text response. Code execution, search and file actions require connected tools, which the model can direct as part of the overall task.

M3.1-Flash-Preview should be considered an independent version with the specified modes. Its reasoning settings differ from M3's switchable modes: in the preview version, the depth of always-on reasoning is controlled.

Practical task

### Plan a backward-compatible rename

Technical example in English

```
Plan a backward-compatible rename
We must rename API field sku to product_code. Existing clients send sku; new clients will send product_code. Stored records currently contain only sku. Plan a compatible sequence for readers, writers, backfill and eventual removal. Define handling for requests that contain both fields with different values, and name the checks required before removal.
```

#### Expected result

```
A staged compatibility plan with an explicit conflict rule and removal gates.
```

#### Check the result

```
The plan keeps old clients functional during transition and explicitly handles conflicting dual-field requests.
```

Keep every complete returned response, file and content part.

Keep every choice and its content/tool calls/reasoning. In SSE assemble deltas by choice/tool index, retain the final finish reason and usage.

##### If the original response needs checking

Keep request/response IDs and headers. No generic text job retrieval URL is supplied.
