About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

GPT-4o (2024-11-20) is the separately named November 20 snapshot in OpenAI’s GPT-4o API catalogue. It belongs to the GPT-4o family for versatile text and visual tasks, accepting text and images and returning text. The dated identity is retained separately from the August 6 and May 13 snapshots and from the moving ChatGPT chat selection.

An illustrative application is editing a document for a specific audience. Supply the original material, the reader’s needs and the facts that must remain intact. Ask for a revised passage or a complete document with an explicit purpose, then refine the selected version in a follow-up. A useful output can include a concise explanation of the changes so that the reader can assess them against the original text.

For a visual question, provide the screenshot, photograph or document image and identify the detail that informs the task. Include the written context the image alone does not supply. A support request can combine the user’s message with a screenshot and ask for the relevant observation, the information still needed and a proposed reply. Use readable text and avoid relying on a tiny label or a precise spatial estimate without checking the source image.

OpenAI’s GPT-4o family documentation lists a 128,000-token context window. The input and requested answer share the available context, so retain the useful material and significant earlier facts while leaving room for the result. Define the required length and format of the answer explicitly. A long collection of source material is most useful when the instruction identifies the question and the facts that matter to it.

The producer documents streaming, function calling and Structured Outputs for the GPT-4o family; current Structured Outputs guidance covers the August 6 snapshot and later models. A schema defines the response’s fields and permitted form, while a function request proposes an application operation. The application executes its actions and returns actual results. A well-formed set of fields still needs to be checked against the supplied evidence, with missing information represented explicitly.

GPT-4o-series documentation also describes Predicted Outputs for a text or code file whose expected content is largely known. That optional path uses the known text when regenerating a version with limited changes, and does not combine prediction with function calling. For the task itself, choose a useful final artifact: an edited passage, a visual explanation, a proposed response or structured findings. Keep its important statements tied to the original material and use later messages to resolve a specific question or revise a particular section.

Practical task

### Edit a project update for a customer

Technical example in English

```
Edit a project update for a customer
Rewrite this internal note as a customer update under 80 words: 'The export fix is implemented in staging. QA found a separate date-format issue. Production rollout waits for both checks. Next review is Thursday.' Keep the tone calm, preserve the staging-versus-production distinction, and offer no release date or claim that the customer's issue is resolved.
```

#### Expected result

```
One customer-facing update with the current stage, remaining check and Thursday review.
```

#### Check the result

```
The draft never turns a scheduled review into a deployment promise or a staging fix into customer-visible resolution.
```
