About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

GPT-4o Mini (2024-07-18) is OpenAI’s dated July 18 small-model edition for focused text and visual tasks. It accepts text and images and produces text, including Structured Outputs. The producer describes workflows with chained or parallel model calls, substantial conversation or document context and concise customer-facing text responses.

An illustrative task is processing a request under a consistent set of rules. Supply the message, the relevant reference information and the response requirements. Ask for the topic, the established facts and a concise proposed reply. For extraction, define the required fields and how to represent an absent value. The maker’s release describes structured data from documents and replies informed by thread history as useful applications.

Visual input can add a screenshot or document page to the written request. Identify the label, state or detail that should inform the answer, and supply any context the image does not show. The release describes the same language range as GPT-4o, together with text and visual reasoning, mathematics and coding. For a constrained edit or code question, state the specific operation and the facts or behavior that must remain intact.

OpenAI’s exact model card lists a 128,000-token context window, a maximum output of 16,384 tokens and a knowledge cutoff of October 1, 2023. The source material and generated answer share the available window. The July 18 snapshot is listed separately from full GPT-4o editions, preserving its own model identity and limits.

The producer documents streaming, function calling, Structured Outputs, file/image inputs and search, fine-tuning and Predicted Outputs. Its listed tool set includes functions, web and file search, image generation, code interpretation and MCP connections. Tools are separate operations: an application exposes them, executes its actions and returns actual results. The producer also describes fine-tuning this model for specialized tasks, without making an existing request a newly trained model.

Structured Outputs guidance explicitly names gpt-4o-mini-2024-07-18 and supports a subset of JSON Schema. Handle a refusal or an incomplete response separately from a completed structured result, and check extracted values against the source material. Predicted Outputs can use largely known text when regenerating a document or code file; the prediction path is text-only and does not combine with function calling.

Define a useful final artifact: a short reply, a list of actions, an edited passage or a set of fields for the next stage. Keep the rules consistent across repeated inputs and carry significant earlier facts into a follow-up. A response is useful when its content, format and proposed next action remain connected to the task and evidence you provided.

Practical task

### Extract fields from a service thread

Technical example in English

```
Extract fields from a service thread
Extract a service record from this thread: M1: 'My order Q-81 arrived with one blue mug missing.' M2: 'We can send a replacement; please confirm your address.' M3: 'The address is unchanged.' Return order ID, missing item, proposed remedy and whether shipment is confirmed. Preserve message labels as evidence.
```

#### Expected result

```
A four-field service record with supporting message labels and distinct proposal versus confirmation status.
```

#### Check the result

```
A proposed replacement must not be reported as a shipped replacement.
```
