## [OpenAI: GPT-4o](https://ailoot.ai/models/en/openai-gpt-4o/)

GPT-4o is OpenAI’s model for text and image understanding with text output. It can work from passages and visual evidence in the same task to explain material, draft content or return structured fields, with function calling documented for application workflows.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

GPT-4o is a general-purpose OpenAI model that accepts text and images and produces text. A request can combine written instructions with visual evidence, allowing an assistant to answer questions about a screenshot, compare labeled images or explain information provided in a document excerpt. The model also supports structured responses and function calling in the manufacturer’s documented interfaces.

#### Combine text with visual evidence

Give each image a label and explain the decision the answer must support. A screenshot review can ask for the visible state, the error message and the next diagnostic question. A comparison can identify the features to examine and request a separate observation for each image. Include written context when the picture alone does not explain the task.

For material containing both prose and visuals, select the relevant passages and images, then name the question connecting them. Ask the model to distinguish what is visible in the source from what follows by interpretation. Retain page or image labels in the answer so a reviewer can return to the supporting material.

#### Draft, explain and revise

A content task can supply an audience, the information to convey and the desired artifact: an explanation, a customer reply, a revised passage or a short briefing. State the facts that must be preserved and the length appropriate to the reader. When revising existing content, identify whether the change concerns wording, structure or missing context.

For code work, provide the relevant excerpt, its role in the project and the behavior you expect. Request a focused explanation or proposal with examples that make the result testable. The returned code can then be inspected and run in the target environment.

#### Return a result the next step can use

OpenAI documents Structured Outputs for GPT-4o. Define the fields, their types and how to represent absent information. A visual extraction might request a label, a readable value and the image identifier supporting it. Validate the structure and compare the extracted content with the source before using it in the next step.

Function calling gives an application a model-selected request for a function it exposes. The application carries out the operation and supplies its result; the model can then use that returned evidence in its response. Preserve the distinction between a proposed action and the recorded outcome.

The manufacturer lists a 128,000-token context window and a maximum output of 16,384 tokens for the documented snapshot. Plan a long task around the relevant source material and the answer it needs. GPT-4o has separately named snapshots; an exact-version workflow should retain the requested model identity with the prompt and result.

Practical task

### Rewrite a returns instruction

Technical example in English

```
Rewrite a returns instruction
Rewrite this internal note as customer instructions: "Get RA first. Send back only unopened units. Include packing slip. Photos needed if seal arrived broken." Explain RA as "return authorization" on first use. Use a short numbered list, preserve the broken-seal condition and avoid adding deadlines, fees or eligibility exceptions.
```

#### Expected result

```
A customer-facing numbered instruction list with the acronym explained and the photo condition preserved.
```

#### Check the result

```
Check that photos are conditional on a seal arriving broken rather than required for every return.
```

Send exact model ID with messages.

Context length is not an output cap.

A text file may supply literal text; image/audio/file-object inputs need exact binding.
