About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

o4-mini (High) denotes OpenAI’s o4-mini with high reasoning effort. The base model is a smaller o-series reasoning model focused on coding, mathematics and visual tasks. It accepts text and images and produces text. High describes the level of reasoning applied to the task, keeping the base o4-mini identity distinct from a new standalone model edition.

A practical application is a technical problem with several conditions that affect the solution. Supply the complete statement, the relevant code or mathematical definitions and the constraints the answer must satisfy. An illustrative request is to compare two algorithmic approaches, explain which conditions each depends on and propose a solution tied to the specified input and result. Ask for the final conclusion and the evidence needed to check it rather than prescribing every internal thought.

For a visual task, supply the diagram, chart or screenshot and explain the detail that matters. The maker’s o3/o4-mini release describes reasoning with images and using tools when those tools contribute useful evidence. A written question can connect the visual relationship to a mathematical or engineering condition. When the environment supplies a calculation or another tool result, preserve the actual output so the next decision has a concrete basis.

OpenAI’s o4-mini specification lists a 200,000-token context window, a maximum output of 100,000 tokens and a knowledge cutoff of June 1, 2024. Reasoning and the visible answer both use token space. High effort gives the task more reasoning work and can require more time; it is separate from the requested length or format of the final response. Organize the useful material and leave room for both analysis and the result.

The producer lists Responses, Chat Completions and Batch interfaces, streaming, Structured Outputs, function calling, file and image inputs, file search, prompt caching and model fine-tuning facilities. Its documented tools include functions, file search, code interpretation, MCP connections and web search. Applications expose their operations, execute their own actions and return actual results; the model’s direct output remains text.

Define a completion criterion suited to the task. For a program, request the affected behavior, proposed changes and the results of checks actually performed. For a mathematical or visual analysis, state the required notation, precision or conclusion and the conditions that justify it. A useful final artifact is a specific solution, code proposal or structured explanation whose important choices can be compared with the supplied problem and evidence.

Practical task

### Choose a pair-sum algorithm

Technical example in English

```
Choose a pair-sum algorithm
Design a Python function has_pair(nums, target) that returns whether two distinct list positions sum to target. Inputs are integers; duplicates are allowed; do not mutate the list. Compare a quadratic scan with a set-based approach, return the chosen implementation and tests for [3,3], target 6, a single 3 and an empty list.
```

#### Expected result

```
A concise complexity comparison, an implementation and tests demonstrating distinct-position handling and duplicate values.
```

#### Check the result

```
Check that [3,3] can succeed while a single [3] cannot reuse the same position.
```
