## [Relace: Relace Apply 3](https://ailoot.ai/models/en/relace-relace-apply-3/)

Relace Apply 3 merges a concise edit snippet into an existing source file and returns the complete updated code. It is a specialized text model for applying planned changes while retaining the sections that the edit leaves unchanged.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Relace Apply 3 is Relace’s specialized code-merging model. It takes the existing source code and an edit snippet, then produces the full merged code. The producer separates the creation of a change from applying that change: a planning or coding model proposes the new sections, and Apply 3 integrates them with the original file.

Prepare the edit snippet with enough surrounding code to establish where each change belongs. The producer’s guidance allows unchanged sections to be abbreviated with comments, but the comment’s position and meaning matter. A concise reference to the specific section being retained can make the intended merge clearer than a vague placeholder placed far from the change.

Deletion needs its own context. The snippet should show the neighboring sections that remain or state which block is removed using an appropriate comment for the language. Preserve the indentation and structure expected in the finished file. A merge request should describe the intended final code, rather than include explanatory lines that should never appear in that code.

The documented inputs distinguish the original file from the update. In the producer’s chat-compatible example they are enclosed in separate code and update sections; its direct apply workflow likewise passes initial code and an edit snippet separately. The output contains the merged code, which is the artifact to inspect or pass back to the surrounding coding application.

For a small repair, provide the actual current file and a snippet that changes the affected condition or function while identifying the surrounding sections to retain. Compare the returned file with the original to confirm that the requested change is present and unrelated sections remain intact. For a larger edit, keep the snippet precise about which existing block each new section replaces.

Relace’s workflow guide emphasizes balancing brevity with enough context for the merge. If the result places an edit incorrectly, inspect whether the snippet’s anchors, abbreviation comments or structure left room for ambiguity. The merged file is a proposed source artifact: the application decides whether to save it and runs the checks required to establish its behavior. Apply 3’s role is merging the planned change, not independently proving that the change satisfies the user’s task.

Practical task

### Merge one precise function edit

Technical example in English

```
Merge one precise function edit
Merge the supplied edit into the original Python file. Return the complete merged file only and preserve the unrelated function.
Original:
def greet(name):
    return 'Hello ' + name
def square(x):
    return x * x
Edit for greet only:
def greet(name):
    return 'Hello ' + name.strip()
Do not change square or add commentary.
```

#### Expected result

```
The complete Python file containing the updated greet function and the unchanged square function, without prose.
```

#### Check the result

```
Only greet's use of name changes to name.strip(); square and the rest of the file remain intact.
```
