## [StepFun: Step 5 Preview](https://ailoot.ai/models/en/stepfun-step-5-preview/)

StepFun’s Step 5 Preview is a sparse MoE model for agentic coding, professional knowledge work and financial analysis. Its producer specifies 600B total parameters, 27B active per token, a 1M context and native text and visual input.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Step 5 Preview is StepFun’s flagship foundation model for real-world agent tasks. The manufacturer describes a sparse mixture-of-experts architecture with 600 billion total parameters and 27B active parameters per token. It supports a 1M-token context and native text and visual input, with software engineering, professional knowledge work and finance as prominent task areas.

The edition is designed around work that extends beyond a single answer. A software assignment may require understanding the current implementation, planning a change, examining an observed failure and revising the proposed result. Prepare the expected behavior, the relevant source and the task’s constraints together, then request the artifact and the evidence needed to assess it.

For a code or application task, identify the component to change and what the completed behavior should look like. Visual input can add a screenshot, chart or other evidence relevant to that objective. Ask the result to distinguish what is visible in the material from a conclusion that depends on written specifications or observations from the application.

For professional research, state the question, the scope and the intended report structure. A useful output separates established findings, the reasoning connecting them and unresolved dependencies. If the application gathers additional information, return the relevant observations so the next step can use that evidence rather than assume it was found.

For financial analysis, provide the data, definitions, units and assumptions used in the task. Request a structured explanation of the calculation or comparison and identify which input supports each conclusion. The generated report or proposed analytical code can then be reviewed against those inputs. This is a preparation pattern for the producer’s stated domain, not a guarantee about a particular financial result.

For a continuing task, retain the source material, accepted findings and completion criteria with the next request. Keep it distinct from the earlier Step 3.7 Flash and from separately published weight or precision artifacts. The model’s output supplies text, code or analysis for a connected workflow; execution of proposed commands and changes to external systems is handled by the application and its tools.

Practical task

### Review a dependent approval workflow

Technical example in English

```
Review a dependent approval workflow
Analyse this workflow against its requirement. Requirement R: a purchase order may be sent only after finance approval for the same revision. Current flow C: approval stores approved=true; editing quantities leaves approved unchanged; Send checks only that flag. Explain the defect, propose a revision-aware check and provide tests for unchanged and edited orders. Do not claim any purchase was sent.
```

#### Expected result

```
A source-linked defect analysis, a proposed revision-aware rule and two regression scenarios.
```

#### Check the result

```
Editing an approved order invalidates approval for the changed revision, while an unchanged approved revision remains eligible.
```
