## [Upstage: Solar Mini 4](https://ailoot.ai/models/en/upstage-solar-mini4/)

Upstage’s Solar Mini 4 is a 35B MoE text model with 3B active parameters for repeated retrieval, extraction and tool workflows. It supports a 512K context, up to 128K output tokens, structured responses and parallel tool calls.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Solar Mini 4 is Upstage’s compact mixture-of-experts model for repeated agent tasks. It has 35 billion total parameters and activates 3B per token. The producer specifies a 512K context and up to 128K output tokens, with English, Korean and Japanese input and output. The published training-data cutoff is February 2026.

Its main work areas include information retrieval, classification, structured output and tool use. A recurring extraction task should provide the source material and the fields needed by the application. For a classification task, define the categories and the evidence that distinguishes them. A useful result returns the required information without expanding the assignment into unrelated analysis.

The producer supports function calling and parallel calls. Define the available functions and their arguments; the model proposes calls, while the application executes them and returns results. Independent checks can be requested together, such as retrieving two pieces of state needed for the next decision. Keep each result associated with its call before continuing the conversation.

JSON mode and schema-based structured output serve different needs. JSON mode produces parseable JSON, while a supported schema controls field names and types. The manufacturer requires an object root, required properties and explicit rules for additional properties in its structured-output subset. Define how missing information should be represented and check the extracted values against the source, even when the format is valid.

Reasoning is off when effort is omitted in the producer’s current guide. None and minimal leave it off; low, medium, high, xhigh and max enable it. Reasoning consumes part of the output allocation, so a small budget can end before the final answer. Use the task’s dependent steps to decide whether thinking is useful, while retaining room for the artifact the application needs.

For a document pipeline, ask the model to compare the structured results from earlier processing, identify missing fields and apply the stated rules for the next step. The output can be a discrepancy record, a classification or a proposed action with its supporting data. The application decides what to execute and supplies the observed result for any follow-up.

Active parameter count describes computation, not the complete weight memory requirement. Upstage notes that the full 35B weights remain loaded in a local deployment and publishes separate quantized deployment conditions. Keep those configuration facts separate from a particular model selection’s execution environment.

Practical task

### Reconcile extracted invoice fields

Technical example in English

```
Reconcile extracted invoice fields
Compare two text-extraction records for invoice IV-902. Record A: total 240 EUR, due date missing. Record B: total 240 EUR, due date 18 August. Source excerpt: 'Invoice IV-902. Amount due: EUR 240. Pay by 18 August.' Return the reconciled fields, the discrepancy and the source phrase supporting the due date. Do not add a year.
```

#### Expected result

```
A compact reconciled record with a discrepancy note and the quoted source phrase for the due date.
```

#### Check the result

```
The total remains EUR 240 and the date does not acquire an unsupported year.
```
