About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Seed 1.6 Flash is ByteDance Seed’s small multimodal model in the Seed1.6 generation. It processes written instructions and supported visual material and returns text: a direct answer, an explanation, extracted information or tool-call content. The Flash producer profile retains image and video understanding alongside language tasks. Its named identity is separate from the larger adaptive-thinking Seed 1.6 model and from subsequent Seed2.0 editions.
Direct and thinking responses
The maker documents a thinking switch for the Flash edition, including support for disabling thinking in the original June reference. A direct-response task can ask for a short explanation or a specified set of fields. A more involved question can use the producer’s thinking workflow while keeping the final answer focused on the requested result. The adaptive FullCoT/NoCoT/AdaCoT description of the larger Seed 1.6 model should not be treated as Flash’s complete control specification.
For a support interaction, provide the user’s question and the relevant product information, then ask for the answer and the source detail it uses. For extraction, define the fields and how to handle an unreadable or absent value. A practical brief is: “Read the supplied page, extract the model name and specification values with their units, and mark any field that is not shown.”
Visual understanding
Flash’s documented profile covers image and video understanding. Give a screenshot or page image a label, preserve surrounding context and make the important text readable. Tell the model whether it should explain a chart, identify a visible element or compare two images. Request the visible evidence behind each finding. For video, specify the event or segment and ask for a textual description of the order of actions or changes.
The output is an account of the supplied material. If the task needs an interface action or an edited media artifact, the surrounding application performs the relevant operation and returns the resulting state. Use that observation to continue rather than treating a proposed action as execution.
Structured results and tools
The producer catalogue documents structured output and tool use for Flash. Supply meaningful field definitions and function descriptions, and state the actions allowed for the task. The model can produce a selected operation or a structured answer; the application checks its arguments and returns the actual observation. Keep source-derived values associated with their page, image or operation so the result can be reviewed.
Context and output
The original Flash reference profile lists a 256K context, up to 224K input and up to 32K combined output including reasoning. Those are producer profile limits; the available completion also depends on how much of the context is already occupied. Reserve room for the answer and keep a longer conversation focused on observations that matter.
For a useful result, define the output form and the review criterion before generating it. Check numbers against the visual source, keep extracted wording separate from interpretation and supply authoritative context for knowledge-sensitive questions. Later Flash revisions and the larger Seed 1.6 edition retain their own differences; no parameter count or adaptive mode is inferred from the Flash name alone.
Practical task
A product-policy support answer
Technical example in English
A product-policy support answer
Use this product note to answer the customer in two sentences: 'The travel mug holds 450 ml, is hand-wash only, and its lid is replaceable.' Customer: 'Can I put the mug in a dishwasher, and must I buy a whole new mug if the lid breaks?' Add the supporting phrase after the answer.Expected result
A two-sentence customer reply followed by the relevant source wording.Check the result
The answer says hand-wash only and replaceable lid without adding a price or replacement procedure.Ailoot Ultra · OpenAI Chat POST /v1/chat/completions bytedance-seed/seed-1.6-flash
