Inception: Mercury 2.5

Mercury 2.5 is Inception’s diffusion-based reasoning text model with a 260K context. Tunable reasoning, parallel tool calls and schema-aligned JSON support search, extraction, coding assistance and repeated agent steps that need a clear, structured result.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Mercury 2.5 is Inception’s diffusion-based reasoning language model. It follows Mercury 2 with updated training shaped by production feedback and failure cases, while retaining the family’s focus on responsive text generation. Its published profile includes a 260K context, tunable reasoning, parallel tool calls and schema-aligned JSON. The input is a written task and relevant text context; the output is text, code, a structured record or proposed tool-call content.

Diffusion and reasoning

The Mercury family generates language through parallel refinement rather than solely predicting one token after another from left to right. This architectural direction is intended to make repeated model steps fit into an interactive workflow. Tunable reasoning lets the producer profile adjust the depth of analysis to the task. Set the required final artifact explicitly: the answer may need to be short even when an intermediate process is more involved.

For a comparison, supply the criteria and named source passages. For extraction, define the fields and their meaning. A useful task instruction is: “Turn these source passages into a record of the required specifications, preserve units and identify the passage supporting each value.” Schema-aligned output gives the application an organised result; agreement with the source still requires review.

Search and retrieval workflows

The manufacturer describes Mercury use in search planning, query rewriting, structuring facts, source summarisation and answer checking. An application can give each step a specific purpose and pass the relevant evidence to the next. Ask a query rewrite to preserve the user’s actual constraints, and ask a source summary to retain the facts needed by the final answer rather than merely shorten every passage.

Mercury 2.5’s parallel tool-call capability is useful when independent operations can obtain different observations for a task. Provide clear function definitions and parameter schemas. The application performs the selected calls and returns their results. Keep the call identifiers and source labels together so the final answer uses observed information, not an assumption that a tool was executed.

Coding and context work

The maker also describes coding assistance and supporting operations such as compacting a long session or finding an appropriate tool. For compaction, identify what the next task needs: accepted requirements, current failures, decisions and the evidence behind them. Ask the model to preserve those items and distinguish incomplete work from a completed result.

For a software change, provide relevant code, expected behaviour and a failing input or observed error. Request a focused implementation and its explanation. If a visual or speech application uses Mercury as its language step, provide the text or tool observation that this model actually consumes; speech recognition, speech synthesis and media rendering remain distinct components.

Limits and output review

The 260K context is the documented 2.5 profile, distinct from Mercury 2’s 128K launch context and the specialised Mercury Voice and Router models. Budget source material, history, reasoning and the final result together. Choose the output form before the task starts and retain space for an answer that includes the mandatory details.

A useful final artifact is a structured extraction, a source-based explanation, a code proposal or a concise task-state summary. Review facts against the supplied material and code in its intended environment. The diffusion architecture and responsive workload role do not independently establish correctness, access to an external source or execution of a proposed action.

Practical task

Rewrite a constrained retrieval query

Technical example in English

Rewrite a constrained retrieval query

Rewrite this request into two concise search queries for an application's document retriever: 'Find the approved procedure for recovering failed nightly exports without rerunning completed pages, for the warehouse service, excluding the retired batch runner.' Preserve the service, recovery objective and exclusion. Explain briefly what each query emphasizes; do not perform a search.

Expected result

Two query rewrites with short purpose notes, retaining all mandatory constraints.

Check the result

Neither rewrite drops the warehouse-service scope, completed-page protection or retired-runner exclusion.
