OpenAI: GPT-3.5 Turbo 16k

The named 16K variant of GPT-3.5 Turbo is a text-and-code chat model with an extended context class. Use related document sections or conversation material to develop a focused summary, comparison or response.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

GPT-3.5 Turbo 16K is OpenAI’s named extended-context variant of the text-and-code chat family. The original maker release describes 16K as four times the standard 4K context class, allowing a request to include more related material. The 16K name remains a separate configuration choice rather than a replacement for a specific dated snapshot name.

An illustrative task is comparing several sections of a working document. Label the passages, identify their roles and state which source takes priority if the conditions differ. Ask for the established facts, differences and questions that the material does not settle. For a conversation summary, define the issue, decisions and next actions that the result should preserve.

Prepare the request with a clear separation between instructions and reference text. Include the definitions and exceptions needed to interpret a passage rather than adding unrelated material simply because more context is available. Input and output share the context budget, so leave room for a focused final result and specify its length and structure.

A useful artifact is a concise brief, comparison or proposed reply tied to the source passages. In a follow-up, identify the section to revise and provide the new condition or missing fact. Keeping the significant source material and the task’s purpose explicit makes the longer-context variant useful for an extended text conversation.

Practical task

Compare policy exceptions with precedence

Technical example in English

Compare policy exceptions with precedence

Compare these passages. Base B: all return requests must arrive within 14 days. Exception E: damaged-on-arrival items may be reported within 30 days. Procedure P: E overrides B only for damaged-on-arrival claims. A customer reports arrival damage on day 20. Write a short source-linked reply and identify what evidence the passages do not specify.

Expected result

A concise applicable-rule comparison, a proposed reply and one source-bounded information gap.

Check the result

The answer follows the explicit exception precedence and does not invent required evidence.
