Perplexity: Sonar Reasoning Pro

Perplexity’s Sonar Reasoning Pro targets questions that need reasoning across several searches and sources. It supports multi-hop investigation and evidence aggregation, producing an answer that connects the findings to the question.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Sonar Reasoning Pro is Perplexity’s reasoning-oriented Sonar selection for research questions with several dependent steps. The manufacturer places it in the role of multi-hop browsing and aggregation across many sources. The result is a researched textual answer that relates the retrieved evidence to the problem being solved.

Use this selection when finding a fact is only the first part of the assignment. A question may require identifying the relevant rule, locating the evidence for an exception and then determining how those pieces change a conclusion. State that chain in the task so that the answer addresses the relationship between findings, rather than presenting unrelated search summaries.

For a technical investigation, provide the exact product or component, the observed behavior and the conditions under which it occurs. Ask for the documentation that explains the behavior, competing explanations and the evidence that distinguishes them. A useful output separates what a source states, what the model infers and what still needs an observation from the application.

For a research comparison, define the common criteria before asking the model to gather information. For example, compare alternatives by the same documented feature, limitation and deployment condition. Request an evidence table followed by the conclusion, with disagreements between sources kept visible. This makes a multi-source answer usable as a decision memo or the starting point for a deeper investigation.

A follow-up question should retain the original objective and identify the new constraint. If a search resolves one part of the problem but leaves another uncertain, ask the next turn to concentrate on that unresolved dependency. Keep the relevant earlier findings available so that the reasoning continues from the evidence already gathered.

Reasoning over retrieved information and executing an external action are separate stages of the application. The model can explain the research result or propose a next step; the application supplies any private records, runs its own tools and returns observations when they are needed. This keeps the final answer connected to the actual evidence for the task.

Practical task

Connect a documented exception to a failure

Technical example in English

Connect a documented exception to a failure

Use only these supplied documentation excerpts. D1: 'Expired access tokens cause error E7.' D2: 'A valid refresh token can obtain a new access token.' D3: 'Refresh is unavailable after account closure.' Log L1: 'E7; account status closed.' Explain the evidence chain, distinguish the likely cause from the permitted recovery path and list one unresolved fact.

Expected result

An evidence table and a short multi-step conclusion retaining source labels and uncertainty.

Check the result

The answer must not recommend refresh as available for the closed account or claim a live lookup occurred.
