About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Qwen3-8B is a dense Qwen3 language model that combines reasoning and ordinary text generation. Its advertised strengths include mathematics, logical problem-solving, code, creative writing, role-based dialogue and following instructions across multiple turns. The family supports more than 100 languages and dialects. A practical application is a multilingual support assistant that turns a customer’s message and a supplied policy excerpt into a useful reply, while retaining product names and the requested tone.
This release has 8.2 billion parameters, including 6.95 billion outside embeddings, and 36 layers. It uses grouped-query attention with 32 query heads and eight key/value heads. It is a separate dense model rather than the 235B mixture-of-experts model operating with fewer experts. The working input and generated result are text: a translation, explanation, revised document, plan or program. Choose a clear task before adding context. For a support reply, provide the customer message, applicable policy, approved terminology and the action the reader should take; request a reply and a separate list of facts that remain missing.
The manufacturer’s starting flow uses a sequence of chat messages and an explicit chat template. For code assistance, include the relevant function, an input that exposes the problem, the actual output and the expected result. Ask for a corrected function plus examples, with a separate explanation of the changed behavior. For translation, identify the source and target languages, readers and terms to preserve. These inputs make the resulting text easier to compare with the original requirement. The published integration expects a Qwen3-aware runtime; the card warns that Transformers versions below 4.51.0 do not recognize the required architecture.
The same model supports thinking and non-thinking modes. Thinking is enabled by default in the provided template. A hard disable removes the reasoning section; when thinking remains enabled, /think and /no_think can change the choice between turns. The latest such instruction takes precedence, and those prompt-level switches cannot override a hard disable. In a product workflow, use direct mode for a short approved-message rewrite and select reasoning for a discrepancy that needs explanation. Keep the final answer separate from intermediate reasoning and retain only the final answer in later conversation history. With thinking enabled, even a soft non-thinking request retains a reasoning block; its content may be empty. The hard disable removes that block.
The manufacturer describes tool calling and recommends Qwen-Agent to manage templates and parsing. An application can supply tool definitions, execute requested calls and return their results. For a support assistant, a narrow read-only order lookup could provide a confirmed shipping state before the model drafts a response. Specify the permitted lookup fields and how a missing record should be reported. The useful final artifact is a reply grounded in the returned information, not an unsupported statement that an external operation succeeded. The Qwen3 guide also describes parallel and multi-step tool calls, with arguments represented as objects and results supplied back into the conversation.
The model card lists 32,768 native context tokens and 131,072 with YaRN expansion. Long-context behavior therefore depends on the actual configuration. Static YaRN can affect shorter requests, so the card advises enabling it when long context is needed. Input, conversation history and generated output consume a shared context budget. Label long source sections, remove irrelevant duplicates and leave room for the requested answer. The published generation example and output recommendations are configuration guidance, not an independent hard output maximum. The Qwen3 documentation discusses assistant-message lengths of 38,912 tokens in thinking mode and 16,384 in non-thinking mode in its training-length explanation, and recommends evaluating the quality of longer generation. These figures are distinct from the overall context window and are not an endpoint-specific hard cap. The card also explains its default positional allocation of 40,960 tokens as 8,192 for typical prompts plus 32,768 for output; this is manufacturer configuration guidance, separate from the native training context and any endpoint limit.
For thinking mode, the recommended sampling values are temperature 0.6, top-p 0.95, top-k 20 and min-p 0; for non-thinking they are 0.7, 0.8, 20 and 0. The manufacturer warns that greedy reasoning can produce repeated text. Higher presence penalties can reduce repetition while sometimes causing language mixing. Define the final format explicitly—for example, a reply followed by a JSON object containing unresolved fields—and validate that object before an application uses it. Check proposed code with the supplied cases and review translations for preserved terminology.
Practical task
A bilingual reply grounded in a return policy
Technical example in English
A bilingual reply grounded in a return policy
Draft a German reply to this customer: 'Can I return my unused Aero Cup after ten days?' Policy P1: unused products can be returned within 14 days; the customer must provide the order reference. Keep Aero Cup unchanged and ask for the missing reference. Follow the reply with a short English note naming the facts used.Expected result
A polite German customer reply and a brief English source-fact note.Check the result
The reply preserves the unused condition and 14-day window, asks for the reference and does not invent refund timing.Ailoot Ultra · OpenAI Chat POST /v1/chat/completions qwen3-8b
