About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Sonar Deep Research is Perplexity’s research-focused Sonar selection for complex investigations and broad source coverage. The manufacturer positions it for expert-level reasoning and exhaustive research. Its useful output is a detailed textual report that organizes the findings around the question, rather than a collection of search results left for the user to assemble.
Start with a research brief: the subject, the scope, the period covered and the decision the report must support. Specify the sections to return and the kinds of evidence that matter. For a technology landscape, a useful brief can ask for the main approaches, their documented constraints, the strongest evidence for each and the questions that remain unresolved.
Separate discovery from synthesis in the requested artifact. The findings should explain what the sources establish; the analysis should state how those findings affect the question. Ask for conflicting evidence and important gaps to stay visible. For a literature-oriented assignment, define whether the emphasis is on scholarly material, original documentation or another class of source.
Perplexity’s published Sonar Deep Research announcement describes reasoning-effort choices and an academic search mode that prioritizes scholarly sources. Those are producer research controls. The assignment still needs a clear goal: deeper processing cannot decide which evidence or deliverable is relevant when the research question itself is unspecified.
A practical output can be an executive summary followed by a comparison of approaches, an evidence table and a set of next research questions. For example, an investigation into a technical design can distinguish established mechanisms, implementation conditions and unresolved trade-offs, with each major conclusion tied to the information used to support it.
Review the report against the original brief. Check whether its conclusions address the defined question, whether differing source editions have been kept separate and whether an inference has been presented as a sourced fact. The research report can guide an application’s subsequent decision, while changes to external systems and analysis of private records require the application’s own tools and access.
