StepFun: Step 3.7 Flash
StepFun’s Step 3.7 Flash is a sparse vision-language model for coding, visual understanding and tool-driven workflows. It combines a 196B language backbone with a 1.8B vision encoder, a 256K context and three producer-documented reasoning levels.

About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Step 3.7 Flash is StepFun’s sparse mixture-of-experts vision-language model for real-world agent tasks. Its approximately 198-billion-parameter system combines a 196B language backbone with a 1.8B vision encoder, activating about 11B parameters per token. It accepts text and images and generates text, code or proposed tool calls for a connected application.
The producer specifies a 256K context window and low, medium and high reasoning levels. These let the manufacturer’s workflow allocate different amounts of thinking to a task. Long-context work includes large reports and multi-file software investigations; prepare the relevant material together with the question and the output needed so the model has a defined objective within that context.
Native visual understanding covers product interfaces, documents, charts and natural scenes. For an interface task, supply the screenshot or design and identify the feature to inspect or implement. For a chart, name the comparison or trend to explain. The manufacturer combines visual interpretation with retrieval and tool use, so a connected workflow can gather additional evidence when the image alone leaves a question unresolved.
Coding tasks include tracing a repository, locating a failure and proposing a patch. Give the observed issue, the expected behavior and the files or logs that establish the current result. Ask for the changed artifact and checks that will assess it. When the application runs a check, return its actual output before the next step so the model can address the observation rather than assume the patch worked.
The producer’s broader workflows span search, terminals, browsers and office tools. Supply the tool definitions and the task’s limits, and distinguish a proposed call from the result returned by the application. A research assignment can compare sources and retain the evidence behind each conclusion; a document task can return an explanation or structured content for the surrounding application to turn into the final artifact.
StepFun publishes separate precision variants and deployment recipes. Its local GGUF examples distinguish the language model from the visual projector and allow additional runtime memory beyond the weight files. The card gives about 120 GB as a local memory minimum and recommends 128 GB unified memory for that setup. These are producer deployment conditions, rather than a claim about the configuration behind a particular model selection.
Keep Step 3.7 Flash distinct from the earlier Step 3.5 text model: the vision encoder and image understanding are material additions. The task’s final result should show the source or visual evidence used, the proposed change or finding and any condition that still needs an observation. External searches, commands and file changes depend on the tools connected by the application.

Trace a failed configuration lookup
Source excerpt: settings = {"timeout_seconds": 30}; timeout = settings["timeout"]. Log: KeyError: timeout. Required public setting remains timeout_seconds. Identify the mismatch, propose the smallest source correction and give a test that reads the configured value plus a test for a missing required setting. Do not rename the public field.Expected result
A source-linked diagnosis, focused patch and two test cases.Check the result
Check that the patch reads timeout_seconds and that the missing-setting case is not hidden by an invented default.Ailoot Ultra · OpenAI Chat POST /v1/chat/completions stepfun/step-3.7-flash
