Tencent: Hy-MT2-7B

Tencent’s Hy-MT2-7B is the 7B dense model in its instruction-guided translation family. It supports glossary, style, background and structure-preservation prompts, with a 262,144-position configuration and a distinct identity from its 1.8B and MoE siblings.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Hy-MT2-7B is Tencent Hy’s dense 7B translation model in the fast-thinking Hy-MT2 family. It takes written source material and translation instructions and produces translated text. The family is designed for real-world tasks in which terminology, audience, background and formatting requirements matter alongside the language pair. The maker’s language table includes Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, French and Spanish, as well as Cantonese, Tibetan, Kazakh, Mongolian and Uyghur.

The exact 7B configuration has 32 layers, 32 query attention heads and eight key/value heads, with 262,144 maximum positions. It is distinct from the smaller 1.8B configuration and the 30B-A3B mixture-of-experts edition. Separate compressed releases have their own artifact identity and deployment conditions.

The producer’s default translation pattern names the target language in full and requests only the translated result. Use full language names consistent with the language of the prompt. State the source and the instructions separately so that a quoted instruction inside the material is treated as text to translate rather than a new task for the model.

Supply preferred terminology as explicit source-to-target pairs. A style instruction can define the voice and audience, while personalization can list the requirements that the passage must satisfy. Background context is useful when a word has several meanings or a sentence depends on information elsewhere in the document. Provide that context before requesting the translation.

For structured data, preserve the original nesting, hierarchy and indentation and translate only visible user-facing content. The maker’s examples retain keys, code tags, properties and placeholders. Delimiters also need their original count and placement. These instructions help keep the translated material usable in the workflow that consumes it.

Tencent recommends temperature 0.7, top-p 0.6, top-k 20 and repetition penalty 1.05 for the 7B and 1.8B editions, with no default system prompt. The example allocates 4096 generated tokens; it demonstrates a request budget rather than an intrinsic model maximum. Those settings are producer guidance, separate from a guarantee about controls exposed by a particular application.

For a useful result, ask for the translated passage or the intact structured object, then assess meaning, terminology and preserved syntax against the original. A multilingual document can use the same glossary across sections; an application-language file can retain every identifier and variable while changing the visible strings. The final output should satisfy both the linguistic and structural parts of the assignment.

Practical task

Translate UI strings with placeholders

Technical example in English

Translate UI strings with placeholders

Translate only the user-facing values in this YAML into Russian. Preserve keys, indentation and placeholders exactly. Source:
checkout:
  title: "Confirm order"
  greeting: "Hello, {name}"
  total: "Total: {amount} RUB"
Use a neutral interface tone. Return only the translated YAML; do not translate RUB or add fields.

Expected result

A YAML block with the same hierarchy and keys, translated visible strings and intact placeholders and RUB.

Check the result

Compare keys, indentation, {name}, {amount} and RUB byte-for-byte with the source.
