SpaceXAI: Grok 4.20
Grok 4.20 is a text-and-image model for reasoning, instruction following and tool-oriented work with a 1,000,000-token context. The producer’s ordinary reasoning selection supports function calling and structured responses, distinct from its Multi-Agent variant.

About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Grok 4.20 is the producer’s ordinary reasoning selection in the Grok 4.20 family. The model card describes text and image inputs, text output and a 1,000,000-token context window. Its capabilities include reasoning, instruction following, function calling and structured outputs. It remains distinct from the explicitly named non-reasoning and Multi-Agent variants.
The producer places the Grok 4.20 alias in its ordinary reasoning selection. Batch processing is supported in the producer’s documented service.
For a document or code assignment, provide the material to examine and the specific behavior or conclusion required. A long context can hold substantial evidence, but the prompt should still identify the relevant parts and the expected final artifact. A useful code result can include a proposed change, an explanation of the behavior it addresses and checks for the surrounding application to run.
Image input can supply a diagram, screenshot or other visible evidence. State which relationship or feature to inspect and how it affects the written question. Request a conclusion that refers to the observation in the image rather than adding an unsupported explanation of information outside it. Written source material can provide the separate context needed for a broader inference.
With function calling, the model proposes arguments for the application’s defined tools. The application executes the requested function and returns the result before the model continues. Retain that exchange over follow-up turns. This gives the model evidence for the next decision and distinguishes a suggestion from an action that was actually completed.
Structured outputs support extraction and reporting with defined fields through the manufacturer’s documented schema system. Use fields whose meaning is clear, specify how absent information should be represented and check the result against the source. The schema system has a practical supported subset and best-effort constraints for more complex cases. The final artifact should make the answer, its evidence and any unresolved condition easy to assess.
Practical task
Extract a source-linked incident record
Technical example in English
Extract a source-linked incident record
Create an incident record from these notes. [Log] Job J-66 failed at 11:42 with timeout. [Operator] Retry was requested at 11:45. [Status] No retry result is recorded. Return job ID, failure time, error, requested follow-up and confirmed outcome as labelled fields, retaining source labels. Treat the requested retry as pending evidence.Expected result
A source-linked record with explicit fields and an unknown retry outcome.Check the result
Check that retry requested is not rewritten as retry succeeded or job recovered.Ailoot Ultra · OpenAI Chat POST /v1/chat/completions x-ai/grok-4.20
