Z.ai: GLM 5.1

GLM 5.1 is Z.ai’s text model for coding and extended agent tasks. Its model metadata lists tool support and a 200,000-token context window for keeping source and task state together.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

GLM 5.1 is Z.ai’s text model with a focus on coding and work that continues across many steps. It accepts text and produces text. Its model metadata lists tool support and a 200,000-token context window.

Keep the software objective visible

Provide the source and the behavior the change must deliver. An error report should retain the failing input, observed output and expected result. A larger task can identify the affected modules and the contracts between them. Ask for a concrete artifact, such as a focused patch or a diagnosis tied to the observed failure.

For a continuing task, distinguish completed work from open questions. Preserve actual command and test results when they determine what to do next. This lets later turns build on observations instead of repeatedly proposing actions that have already been considered.

Tool observations and structured records

The model metadata lists tool support. An application can perform a proposed operation and return its result to the model as text. Keep the intended action separate from the observation it produces, and retain the source or state that gives that observation meaning.

For records that software can process, define the fields, types and treatment of missing information, then validate the result against the supplied evidence. A record’s shape and its factual contents require separate inspection.

Context and the delivered change

Plan each request around the interface’s actual working allowance, reserving space for the answer. Keep source material relevant to the current question and preserve exact identifiers for findings or code locations. A useful completed task leaves the proposed or applied change, its purpose and the evidence needed to assess the resulting behavior.

Practical task

Fix a pagination boundary

Technical example in English

Fix a pagination boundary

Diagnose this pagination rule: next_page is available whenever len(rows) equals page_size. Dataset has exactly 40 rows and page_size is 20, so page 2 advertises an empty page 3. Propose a minimal correction using a one-row lookahead, preserve the public page size, and give tests for 39, 40 and 41 rows. Do not assume a database library.

Expected result

A focused lookahead proposal, pseudocode and boundary tests for the three dataset sizes.

Check the result

A full final page has no next-page flag, while a genuine extra row still signals another page.
