Inception: Mercury 2

Mercury 2 is Inception’s diffusion-based reasoning text model for interactive coding, search and agent workflows. Parallel refinement, a 128K context, tunable reasoning, native tool use and schema-aligned JSON help produce focused answers and structured artifacts from text.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Mercury 2 is Inception’s reasoning language model built around diffusion-based text generation. Rather than only decoding sequentially from left to right, the model refines several tokens in parallel towards the result. The manufacturer develops this profile for repeated interactive steps in coding, agents, retrieval and extraction. It accepts written instructions and text context and produces a text answer, code, structured data or proposed tool operations.

Producer profile

The exact launch description lists a 128K context, tunable reasoning, native tool use and schema-aligned JSON. These features belong to Mercury 2’s documented profile, separate from the later Mercury 2.5 context and the specialised Voice, Router and Edit models. Set the final answer form explicitly rather than inferring a speech or editing output from the family name.

For a simple extraction, give the field definitions and the source passage. For a reasoning task, state the complete condition and the constraints that must hold. A practical brief is: “Compare this implementation with the requirements, identify the first mismatch and return a focused correction with its supporting explanation.” The final result should remain tied to the input even when the model develops intermediate analysis.

Coding and editing assistance

The maker describes autocomplete, next-edit suggestions, refactoring and interactive code agents as relevant workloads. Supply the surrounding implementation and identify what should change. Explain the expected behaviour and preserve public names or interfaces that the revision must retain. A proposed edit can then be inspected for fit before it is applied to the actual project.

In a tool-guided development task, the model chooses from supplied operations and the application executes them. Return real errors, code excerpts or validation observations to the next turn. The generated implementation and a successfully executed result are separate artifacts, and the task should require the observation that establishes completion.

Search and agent loops

Mercury 2’s manufacturer use cases include multi-hop retrieval, reranking and summarisation. Give each step a precise purpose: identify the question to search, the criteria for a relevant source and the facts the final answer needs. Keep source identifiers through the workflow so a summary can be traced back to its material.

A structured output should have defined fields, clear types and a convention for missing information. Schema alignment concerns the representation of the result; compare its values with the actual document or tool observation. In a continuing task, retain the useful findings and unresolved questions rather than accumulating unrelated history.

Interactive language tasks and limits

Mercury 2 can supply the text-generation step inside a voice or other interactive application. Its documented role there is producing the words or decision used by the surrounding components, which handle audio and playback. For transcript cleanup, provide the transcript and specify which wording, names and meaning must survive the edit.

The 128K context contains source material, conversation and generated content together. Reserve space for the final response, keep the question visible through revisions and avoid treating context capacity as an independent output allowance. Review generated facts, code and extracted fields against the original input. The useful artifact is a focused answer or structured result that advances the stated task and can be checked with the evidence actually supplied.

Practical task

Clean up a dictated task note

Technical example in English

Clean up a dictated task note

Clean up this supplied transcript for a task tracker: "Um, ask Rina, no, ask Sam to review invoice INV-209 before Thursday. Keep Rina copied. It is 480 euros, not 840." Remove fillers and false starts while preserving the corrected owner, copied person, invoice ID, deadline and amount. Return one clear task sentence.

Expected result

One cleaned task sentence retaining the final owner, copy instruction, invoice ID, deadline and corrected amount.

Check the result

Check that Sam owns review, Rina is copied and the amount is 480 euros.
