About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Llama 3.2 11B Vision is Meta’s smaller multimodal member of the Llama 3.2 Vision collection. The model combines a Llama 3.1 language backbone with a separately trained vision adapter. Cross-attention connects image-encoder representations to the autoregressive text model, so the response can use visual evidence together with the written task. The 11B size class has 10.6 billion parameters in Meta’s configuration table and uses grouped-query attention.
Its input consists of text and images; its output is text, with a context length of 128K tokens. English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Spanish and Thai are officially supported for text-only tasks. Image-and-text applications are officially supported in English. A multilingual text conversation and a question about an image therefore have different documented language scopes.
The pretrained and instruction-tuned editions serve different purposes. The pretrained edition provides a foundation for adaptation to image reasoning. The instruction-tuned edition uses supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning from human feedback to support visual recognition, image reasoning, captioning and conversation with images. The 11B label identifies this size branch; it does not replace the choice of tuning edition.
The intended visual applications include answering questions about photographs, understanding a document’s text and layout, writing captions, matching pictures with descriptions and grounding language in objects or regions. A document assistant can explain a form section by section, relate a table to its heading or answer a question about the visible page. A product workflow can describe the objects and relationships in a photograph. For visual grounding, name the object or region in the question and request an explanation tied to the supplied image. For image-and-text matching, compare the visible content with candidate descriptions.
For an Ailoot API task, pair the image with a specific instruction and choose the text artifact you need: a caption, an answer with observations, an extracted-detail list or an explanation. State which part of the image matters and preserve its connection to the question when refining the response. The image serves as evidence for a text result; Meta’s examples generate text from an image and a starting prompt.
The Vision family’s pretraining uses six billion image-and-text pairs. Instruction tuning combines public vision-instruction datasets with more than three million synthetic examples. The pretraining cutoff is December 2023, and the release is a static model trained on an offline dataset. Meta’s responsibility work includes safety fine-tuning, adversarial testing and system-level safeguards. Its stated limitations include inaccurate or biased responses and evaluation coverage that cannot encompass every deployment scenario. Review the resulting descriptions against the visible material and keep observations distinct from interpretation.
Practical task
Match descriptions to a transcribed product view
Technical example in English
Match descriptions to a transcribed product view
Use this text description of a product view: one blue mug with a handle, no lid, standing beside a silver spoon. Candidate captions: A, blue lidded travel cup; B, blue handled mug beside a spoon; C, two blue bowls. Select the caption supported by the description and explain each mismatch in the alternatives.Expected result
One selected caption and a brief evidence comparison for all three candidates.Check the result
Check that no unmentioned lid or second vessel is added and that the choice uses the supplied text only.Ailoot Ultra · OpenAI Chat POST /v1/chat/completions llama3.2-11b
