OpenAI: GPT-5.6 Terra Pro (batch)
GPT-5.6 Terra with Pro reasoning for applied tasks that benefit from fuller analysis. Compare supplied documents, interpret rules or develop a structured response from text and visual material.
About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
GPT-5.6 Terra Pro denotes OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Terra with Pro reasoning. Terra is the GPT-5.6 reasoning tier for applied work and roughly corresponds to the mini tier in earlier GPT-5 families. The base model accepts text and images and produces text. Pro adds model work while developing the final answer, preserving Terra as the selected base edition.
An illustrative task is comparing two documents under a stated set of requirements. Supply both texts, identify which version or section takes priority and define the criteria that matter. Request the agreements, the differences and the questions that need clarification. You can ask for a comparison table followed by a short recommendation that makes its conditions explicit. A missing statement should be represented as missing information rather than a fact supplied by the model.
Terra can also be used within a task that connects a written request to a policy or technical explanation. Provide the relevant rules and ask for a response in a specific form, such as a letter, a set of fields or a plan for the next action. If an image carries essential evidence, identify the detail to inspect and give the context needed to interpret it. For a technical question, include the observed behavior and the expected behavior alongside the relevant code or description.
The maker’s GPT-5.6 Terra specification lists a 1,050,000-token context window, a maximum input of 922,000 tokens and a maximum output of 128,000 tokens. Its documented knowledge cutoff is February 16, 2026. The base model supports none, low, medium, high, xhigh and max reasoning effort, with medium as the default. Pro mode and effort are independent settings, and the context budget accommodates reasoning as well as the source material and final answer.
OpenAI documents Pro in the Responses API for difficult work that allows additional latency and model activity. The base model supports streaming, Structured Outputs, function calling, web and file search, image input and prompt caching. The producer also lists image-generation tooling, a code interpreter, hosted shell and patch operations, skills, computer use, MCP connections and tool search. An application exposes and executes its operations and returns their results; the model’s text response is separate from those executed actions.
Prepare the request around a completion criterion. In the document comparison, identify the evidence required for each conclusion and ask for unresolved points to be listed separately. In a response-writing task, specify the mandatory facts and the reader’s next action. A useful final result is a structured comparison or proposed response whose important statements can be traced back to the supplied material, ready for a focused follow-up.
