qwen2.5-omni-7b

Qwen2.5-Omni-7B combines text, images, audio and video understanding with text and natural speech output. Its Thinker-Talker architecture aligns audio with video timing, supports streamed interaction, and offers two documented voices in this exact open checkpoint.

About the model

This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.

Overview: one model for several input modalities

Qwen2.5-Omni-7B is Qwen’s end-to-end multimodal model for text, images, audio and video. It can understand these inputs together and generate text with natural speech in a streaming workflow. Use it when a task depends on both what is visible and what is audible, or when the user gives the instruction by voice rather than by typing. This is the exact 7B checkpoint; commercial Omni-Turbo and later Omni releases have their own contracts.

Key features and architecture

The Thinker-Talker design combines understanding with speech generation. Thinker processes the multimodal task and produces textual content, while Talker participates in forming the spoken response. TMRoPE, the maker’s time-aligned multimodal positional scheme, synchronizes timestamps from video with audio. The architecture is designed for chunked input and responsive voice or video interaction; this design goal is not a fixed response-time guarantee for every interface.

The maker’s task coverage includes speech recognition, speech translation, audio understanding, image reasoning, video understanding and speech generation. Spoken instructions can therefore participate directly in a multimodal question rather than always requiring a separately supplied typed transcript. Keep the target task clear: understanding an audio clip, answering a spoken question and generating a spoken answer are distinct uses even though the model supports all of their input or output forms.

Preparing a multimodal conversation

Provide the relevant media and say how the answer should connect them. For a narrated demonstration, ask the model to distinguish the visible steps from the speaker’s explanation and identify where they agree. For a picture plus an audio question, identify the image’s role and request a concise answer grounded in the visible content. For an audio-only excerpt, state whether the aim is recognizing speech, explaining sounds or answering a question about the content. These are authored applications of the documented task coverage.

The maker’s examples show text-only, audio-only, video-only and mixed-media conversations. Preserve the original order and timing of a video. Label separate assets so the model can refer to them without treating unrelated evidence as one event. The result may be text alone or text with speech; choose the useful artifact before preparing the request.

Speech-output preparation

Qwen’s checkpoint recipe requires its documented audio-capability system prompt when speech output is needed. The prompt identifies Qwen and its auditory, visual, text and speech capabilities; an unrelated replacement can prevent the expected audio behavior. This is guidance for the maker’s checkpoint workflow, not an assertion that every application exposes system-prompt or audio-generation controls.

The exact checkpoint offers two voices: Chelsie, a warm female voice, and Ethan, an upbeat male voice. Chelsie is the documented default when no speaker is selected. Its generation example writes speech at a 24,000 Hz sample rate. These two voices should not be replaced by the four-voice description of a separately named commercial model.

Using audio from video

A video’s soundtrack can be relevant to its meaning, such as spoken instructions or a sound produced by a visible action. Qwen exposes use_audio_in_video across media preparation, processing and generation. The setting must stay consistent at all three stages and across a multi-turn conversation; inconsistent settings can produce unexpected results. A video-only visual interpretation is therefore different from an audiovisual interpretation, even when the file is the same.

Text-only output and batching

The maker supports text-only output by setting return_audio=False. It also allows Talker to be disabled after loading, reducing GPU memory by approximately 2 GB but leaving audio output unavailable in that instance. The documented mixed-sample batching example requires return_audio=False and combines text, image, audio and video requests. That batch example should not be promoted into a claim of batched speech generation.

Context and substantive limits

The checkpoint’s text-backbone configuration sets maximum positions to 32,768. Text, represented media and generated responses consume sequence space; this value does not independently define a universal audio or video duration. The maker’s resource examples show that longer video needs substantially more memory, so a short relevant clip is often more practical than a large unrelated recording. Its examples do not publish a separate hard maximum answer length or a universally guaranteed media duration.

Check speech quotations and conclusions against the source, preserve enough visual detail for the question, and keep a textual result when a reviewer needs to inspect the spoken explanation. The model’s documented value is joint understanding and text/speech response, while exact voice controls, media processing and output delivery remain features of the chosen interface.

Practical task

Compare demonstration notes with narration

Technical example in English

Compare demonstration notes with narration

Compare two text records of demonstration M2. Visual notes: 'Operator closes the lid, then presses Start.' Narration transcript: 'Press Start before closing the lid.' Identify the sequence disagreement and write one clarification question for the instructor. Use only these supplied records; do not claim to have watched or heard a clip.

Expected result

A source-linked sequence comparison and one targeted clarification question.

Check the result

The answer must preserve the opposing event order and avoid inventing a resolution.
