Anthropic: Claude Opus 5.5 (batch)
Claude Opus 5.5 is designed for large engineering changes and sustained professional analysis. Helps verify results and clearly explain complex work while maintaining the specified writing style.
About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
Sustained development and professional analysis
Claude Opus 5.5 is designed for many hours of work on complex engineering tasks. Anthropic highlights large migrations, codebase audits, removal of software inefficiencies and investigation of systems. The model can study a problem, plan changes, use action results and continue working through preparation of the outcome.
Other uses include research, financial analysis and business material. An example professional workflow connects building a financial model with presenting its conclusions in a presentation. This requires application tools for data, files and presentation; the model's own text response can contain analysis, the material's structure or code.
Conclusions that can be understood and checked
Communication is a particular focus of this version. According to Anthropic's description, the model places the main point first, uses less specialized jargon and follows specified writing rules. In sustained work, this helps connect completed actions to a clear final explanation. The desired detail, tone and format should be described explicitly.
The model accepts text and images. It can read values from dense charts, diagrams and interface screenshots; zooming or cropping through tools remains useful for particularly dense material. The response is text, while finished documents and visual material are produced by tools in the environment.
The manufacturer's standard visual input formats are JPEG/PNG/GIF/WebP, using the first frame of an animation. For native analysis, the longer dimension is 2576 pixels, with 4784 visual tokens; larger images are downscaled before analysis. File and parameter support depends on the application's method.
Reasoning is always enabled
Opus 5.5 uses always-on adaptive reasoning. Disabling reasoning and a manual extended thinking budget are not supported. The main depth control is effort: low, medium, high, xhigh and max are available, with medium as the default.
At high levels, the model may devote more analysis to an individual step. The overall response limit includes room for reasoning and final content, so a complex task requires an appropriate budget. The context window is 1 million tokens, and the maximum response in ordinary mode is 128 thousand tokens. The reliable built-in knowledge cutoff is June 2026.
Tools and the history of a long task
The manufacturer provides task budgets, changes to effort and available tools during a conversation, on-demand history compaction and intermediate notes between actions. Their availability and display depend on the application. If the application returns retained reasoning blocks, compatibility is limited: Opus 5.5 reads its own blocks, those of Opus 5 and earlier Opus, Sonnet and Haiku models; it does not read Fable or Mythos reasoning. Other model pairings require appropriate method support. Incompatible blocks are excluded before the next turn, which continues without them. Editing previous messages, the system instruction or an earlier set of tools can break the binding of subsequent blocks: its verification either rejects the request or excludes the affected blocks.
If the method provides tool settings, the manufacturer's model permits automatic selection with auto and disabling tools with none. A call cannot be forced either to any tool with any or to a specific named tool with tool. Reading documents, executing code, controlling interfaces and creating files are possible through provided tools, not automatically from an ordinary text request.
Safety mechanisms apply in high-risk fields. Anthropic explicitly acknowledges that preliminary behavioral checks do not identify every possible error. Clear explanations and the model's own checks are therefore useful but do not replace verification of the final result in the specific task.
