OpenAI: GPT-6.1 Sol (batch)
GPT-6.1 Sol is OpenAI’s reasoning model for complex coding, computer use and professional analysis. It accepts text and images and produces text, with a 1,050,000-token context and effort settings that develop an answer from supplied evidence and tool observations.
About the model
This description covers the model’s capabilities. Available in Ailoot inputs, outputs and options are listed for the selected method below.
GPT-6.1 Sol is OpenAI’s reasoning model for complex coding, computer use and professional work. It follows GPT-6 Sol and offers a balanced profile for demanding tasks that need substantial analysis. The producer model accepts text and images and generates text, including explanations, code and structured results. This standard profile remains separate from Pro reasoning mode and from GPT-6 Sol.
Task and input preparation
For software work, give the relevant code, expected behaviour, observed failure and the contracts the change must preserve. Specify the final artifact and what would establish completion. A practical brief is: “Compare these two implementations with the requirements, identify the dependencies each affects and return a focused correction with the evidence supporting it.” A repository task should keep file names and module boundaries visible through follow-ups.
For professional analysis, name the sources and the decision to be made. State the comparison criteria, required terminology and treatment of missing information. If an image contains evidence, identify whether it is a chart, diagram or interface state and which detail matters. Ask the result to distinguish a visible or source-supported finding from an interpretation.
Context and reasoning
OpenAI lists a 1,050,000-token context, a maximum input of 922,000 tokens and a maximum output of 128,000 tokens. The documented knowledge cutoff is April 30, 2026. Reasoning occupies space alongside source material and the visible response; exhausting the completion budget can leave an answer incomplete. Prepare relevant context and leave room for the analysis and final artifact rather than treating the input ceiling as the whole task budget.
The exact model supports low, medium, high, xhigh and max reasoning effort, with medium as the default. It does not support none or minimal. Effort controls how much reasoning is applied, while standard and Pro mode describe a separate execution choice. Define the answer independently of that depth: a code change, decision memo, procedure or specified record.
Interfaces and tools
The producer uses Responses for tool calling; its Chat Completions interface accepts GPT-6.1 Sol requests without tools. The model card lists Structured Outputs, streaming and function calling, together with web and file search, image-generation tooling, a code interpreter, shell and patch tools, skills, computer use, MCP connections and tool search. The model’s own output remains text, while an image-generation tool produces a separate artifact.
The surrounding application supplies and executes its operations and returns observations. Keep each result associated with its call and source so the continuing task can use actual evidence. The GPT-6 family guide also describes asynchronous tool work, mid-turn steering, retained reasoning and compaction for longer workflows; these are producer workflow capabilities rather than an assumption that every ordinary request activates them.
Useful results
State the conditions that make the task complete and the evidence needed for a conclusion. For code, inspect the implementation and return actual validation observations. For documents, ask the final answer to identify the supplied facts, assumptions and unresolved questions. The useful result is a reviewable text or code artifact tied to the original goal and sources, with the exact GPT-6.1 Sol profile retained.
